What is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is known by many terms, including cold laser or low-intensity laser. Recently, experts have chosen PhotoBioModulation Therapy (PBMT) as a more accurate term that describes the therapeutic use of red and near-infrared wavelengths of light energy from laser or light emitting diodes (LEDs) that have a positive effect on cellular metabolism and are highly effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal and peripheral nerve injuries, inflammation, tissue damage, joint pain, swelling, wounds, and other benefits.

What can patients expect?

Patients often ask what a laser treatment session feels like. It is basically painless, and due to increased blood circulation, there is sometimes a very minimal sensation of pleasant warmth over the affected area. The laser beam is held close to, or directly on the skin while treating specific injured areas, nerve distributions or referred pain patterns based on conditions.


Results vary in expected recovery time and reduced symptoms. Some patients notice immediate dramatic improvement of symptoms after just 1 or 2 treatments.
